Uniquely Different

This week in advisory, students explored a new element of our kindness curriculum and focused on accepting differences and honoring uniqueness. The students started with an exploration of what it means to be different and how that plays into social interactions and friendships. They then read the book “The Story of Ferdinand” as a class and explored how others’ expectations of what Ferdinand the bull should and shouldn’t be like played into how Ferdinand felt and acted. They capped this off by exploring how much they really know about each other and comparing how similar or different they are by splitting to groups of two, interviewing each other and constructing a ven-diagram of their similarities and differences. They concluded that it’s important to accept ours and other’s differences and how important it is to be yourself and celebrate uniqueness.
